How Prorated Rent Works
When a tenant moves in during the middle of a month, landlords typically charge a prorated amount for the first partial month. This calculator uses the daily rate method:
- Calculate the daily rate by dividing monthly rent by the number of days in the month
- Count the number of days the tenant will occupy the unit (from move-in date to end of month)
- Multiply the daily rate by the number of occupied days
This ensures fair rent calculation where the tenant only pays for the days they actually occupy the property.
